How an upgrade runs
Review
We list your apps, custom and third-party modules, and agree which to keep, replace with new standard features or retire.
Week 1Migrate a copy
A copy of your database is migrated and custom modules are ported to the new version.
Weeks 2–3Check and test
Trial balance, receivables, payables and stock are compared before and after, and your users test their daily work.
Week 4Switch over
The live database is upgraded over a weekend or evening, with a full backup taken first.

Features you are missing
Each release improves accounting, bank reconciliation, inventory and reporting. Some of your custom modules may no longer be needed at all.
Speed
Newer versions are noticeably faster, especially on large databases.
Security and support
Odoo supports only the latest three major versions. Staying current keeps you on supported, patched software.
Easier integrations
New connectors, including FBR Digital Invoicing, are built for current versions first.
Upgrade questions
Can we skip versions, for example from Odoo 14 straight to 19?
Yes. The database is migrated through each version in turn, but you test and go live once, on the final version.
How long will the system be down?
Usually only the switch-over itself, which we schedule outside working hours. Large databases may need a weekend.
What happens to our custom modules?
Each one is reviewed. Ones still needed are ported and tested; ones the new version makes unnecessary are retired, which makes future upgrades easier.
